THE CLASSES.

GCSES
At Hogwarts there are two sets of important exams. The first is at the end of fifth year. All students at Hogwarts take ten subjects for their GCSE exams, unless they are not able to cope with the workload and take nine instead. There are five compulsory subjects and the other five are compromised of any chosen from the Elective Subjects list.

COMPULSORY SUBJECTS
    • Double Science (Worth two GCSEs and compromised of separate biology, chemistry, and physics exams)
    • English Language
    • English Literature
    • Mathematics

ELECTIVE SUBJECTS
    • Art
    • Classics
    • Design Technology
    • Drama
    • Food Technology
    • Geography
    • Graphic Design
    • History
    • Information Technology
    • Latin
    • Language*
    • Music
    • Physical Education
    • Religious Studies
    • Textiles

    * A modern language is very strongly recommended at Hogwarts; this would most commonly be French, which they have all studied since first year, although other languages are also possible. It is possible to take more than one modern language for GCSE.

A-LEVELS
The second set of exams, the A-levels, comes at the end of upper sixth. At the beginning of lower sixth, the students choose three subjects to study intensively for their A-levels. These will eventually lead towards whatever university course they are planning to apply for. Certain subjects hold more weight with universities - for example, a student wanting to apply for Law at Oxford probably shouldn't study Psychology, Sociology, and Media Studies - for example, History, Latin and Maths are all more academic subjects. Check with the mods to see if your subject choices are good ones for the plans you have for your character.

A-LEVEL SUBJECTS
    • Art and Design
    • Biology
    • Business Studies
    • Chemistry
    • Classical Civilisation
    • Computing
    • Dance
    • Design and Technology - Food Technology
    • Design and Technology - Product Design
    • Drama and Theatre Studies
    • Dress and Textiles
    • Economics
    • English Language
    • English Literature
    • Further Mathematics (Can only be taken after completing the ordinary Mathematics course in a year)
    • Geography
    • Government and Politics
    • Graphic Design
    • History
    • Information and Communications Technology
    • Latin
    • Mathematics
    • Media Studies
    • Music
    • Philosophy and Ethics
    • Physical Education
    • Physics
    • Psychology
    • Religious Studies/Theology

Plus essentially any modern language that students want to study.
